MADE IN EDEN x LOOK FOR GLASSES Envelope Case
【 Inspiration 】
Eyeglasses were considered luxury items in the 1930s-1940s and were not easily accessible, making them valuable, they were often worn only when necessary for reading. Therefore, having a portable and highly protective eyeglass case was essential.
In collaboration with a local antique eyeglass store @lookforglasses, we have recreated two eyeglass cases from the 1930s.
Another eyeglass case: Wrap-around Case
【 Craftsmanship 】
The Envelope Style, made from top-quality burgundy vegetable-tanned cowhide. It is crafted using traditional three-dimensional molding techniques and features unique triangular wooden blocks and metal strips for added reinforcement. This design effectively protects the entire eyeglass frame and lenses, faithfully replicating the craftsmanship details from the 1930 catalog.
Another highlight is the lightweight nature of the eyeglass case, measuring only 1.8 centimeters thick, making it easy to store the glasses and case in a jacket pocket or handbag.
【 Recreation 】
The production of these two recreated cases differs significantly from the typical eyeglass case manufacturing process. In addition to extensive manual work, it involves customizing and assembling wooden and metal components, resulting in substantial research and development costs and time testing. After six months of continuous improvement, the metal frames from the 1930s were successfully replicated, preserving 100% of the era's details. These contemporary eyeglass cases are truly unique, as nothing similar exists in the market.
